When I was a sophomore in high school, I tore my ACL and patella tendon playing football. It
took me about the whole school year to recover to a point I could jog. I decided not to focus on
football but focus on lacrosse. I was talented at the sport when I first played it, so I went to my
first lacrosse practice after my recovery, thinking I would still be the same as I was before. But
during tryouts, I could feel that running made me feel stiff, and it made me depressed because I
knew how it used to feel to run before my two surgeries.
I told myself either just to give up and stop playing sports completely or push through this hard time and be the player I used to be. I ended up choosing to push through it, and it took some time, dedication, pain, and heartache to push through that time. By the time it came time to start practicing, I was back to being able to play somewhat the same as I used to, but I could tell I needed to put more work in. I kept working on myself. I watched my own game film, and I watched how other people played so I could take a part of their play style and connect it to my own, so I had a unique hybrid play style.
This worked because I was voted best player on my high school team, and I played for the travel
lacrosse team that won several tournaments. This story shows how I strive to overcome obstacles and work hard for the things I want.
